the silver stars pregame show

back from the cold of Minneapolis, the silver stars return to the AT&T Center for a rematch of their 77-61 win over the Lynx on Friday. Hi everyone, I’m chase risman. Last night saw the silver stars get down 13-4 and 15-6 but then the defense steped up. Sophia young scored a game high 10 in the first and 21 for the game, her 33rd career 20+point game, 4th this year. they won 77-61. when we come back, it’s going to be Dillard talk.

Welcome back.  now last year with the spurs Andrew Monaco mentioned something about Sean Elliot. it was at cougar school. someone said” hey we know you, you work for the spurs, very next question, can you get me Sean Elliott’s autograph? it’s time for daiilard talk. with tai dillard. what imperssed you with the defense last night?

i thought it was the foruth quarter, getting stops and holding them scorless for about 6 minutes.

now tonight could diffrent then last night. the reslut may not change but the outcome will. what do think?

i think silver stars by 7.

thank you. coming up the “star to watch”

starting lineup for the silver stars is the one they used on friday. tonight’s “star to watch” is sophia young. she scored 21 on friday, but she has not yet gotten a 30 point game. she’s come close tons of times.  tonight is a chance. coming up the lynx scouting report.

same lineup for minnesota. now for more on the lynx, here’s sandy brondello.

“they attack you with their offensive rebounding abilty and the way they get second chance points. semoine is a great player and she get’s her shot when she want’s to.  Rene montgomrey get’s to the hole and finds people. we have to get back devensifly or they burn you. and candice get’s to the basket when she want’s to. so just play defense and we’re fine”.

Toyota halftime report

It’s deja vu all over again for the silver stars and monarchs. It’s a remtach of their last 2 playoff mettings, the silver stars lead 33-25 at the half. Hi everyone, i’m Chase Risman. the last 2 years, the silver stars have met the monarchs in the first round of the playoffs. both times the stars won the series. both in 3 games. we take a look back at those matchups.

in 2007 the monarchs took game 1 by 21, but lost by 23 in game 2 in texas. and in game 3, after blowing a 20 point lead, the stars becky hammon found vikke johnson for a game wining layup to win the series 80-78. In 2008, becky hammon scored 30 in game 1 to seal an 85-78 win. in game 2 though sacremnto whould win 84-67. but game 3 was all about sophia young: 27 points, 8 rebounds. and an 86-81 win.

that was great. coming up we wizz around the wnba.

welcome back. in new york, the libety lead 50-33 .  in atlanta, the dream lead the shock 58-53.  one other game tonight. the sparks are in seattle. before we head back to andrew and tia, we are going to talk with silver stars asstaint coach sandy brondello who tonight will not be on the ask the coach segment, i will save that for tuesday. sandy, what did dan tell the girls in the locker room?

all right thanks a lot. btw, the coach on ask the coach segment tonight is Olaf lange.

the silver stars pregame show

the silver stars are coming off an incredibale 91-87 win over phoenix on tuesday and hope to get to .500 for the second time friday as they host playoff rematch sacrmento. hi everyone i’m chase risman. the tuseday game was quite ugly but a great win. here’s why: 2:45 left phoenix 87 stars 83. becky hit a 3 to cut it to 1 then belinda snell who had a career game drew the foul ather stealing the inbound. hit 1 of 2. then sophia hit a free throw. Becky got a key rebound and sealed the deal for a 91-87 win. Now Sacremnto comes in here hoping for some payback. they lost in the first round of the playoffs to the silver stars last year and in fact the last 2 years. both in 3 games. when we come back it will be dilard talk.

welcome back. now sophia young has 31 career 20+point games but no 30+point games. maybe if she has one, it will get us going. also, three games left on this home stand: sacrmento, washington and chicago. And also she has 13 career double doubles. but no 30 point games.  we will be right back.

san antonio’s starting lineup: sophia young: no 30 point games, vikke johnson, ruth riley for ann wauters back in the second half, helen darling and becky hammon. Now becky hammon is a great scorer. she happens to be the focus of today’s “star to watch”. she led the new york liberty in scoring 49 times. in her 3 years her she has led the the team in scoring 37 times. 18 in 2007, 18 in 2008, and 1 this year.  she has led the team in assits 52 times. coming up the sacremento scouting report.

sacrmento starting lineup: Nicole Powell, very dangerous, damya walker, laura harper, Scholanda Robinson and ESPN NBA sideline reporter Kara Lawson. Now remeber crystall kelly? she hurt the stars in game 2 of their playoff metting last year. she had 19 points and 12 rebounds. for more on the monarchs, here’s Sandy Brondello who has tonight’s scouting report. “they pass the ball very well. they can shoot the 3, and also have a good point guard. i think the main thing to watch is the paint. they score almost half their points down low, and with courtiney paris now on the roster it’s really important. if we can defend the paint get some rebounds and etc, then we may do just fine. we just need to get off to a great start and keep it”.

coming up andrew monaco and tia dillard with their pre game thoughts then back here for gameday.

in 2007, in the first round, the silver stars vs the monarchs, becky hammon with the ball, game 3, win or go home. she found vikkie johnson for the game winning layup. then last year, the silver stars hit almost all of their free thorws in overtime for an 86-81 game 3 win. tonight the monarchs return to the at&t center for a remtach of the last 2 playoff meetings. next. Welcome to the at&t center for silver stars basketball and tonight they host the team they’ve knocked out of the playoffs the last 2 years, the Sacremnto Monarchs. hi everyone. what a win on tuesday. they held phoenix scoreless for the last 2:45 and win 91-87. so what do they have to do tonight? Tai dillard? maybe a 30 point game form sophia who dos’nt have one yet or from becky or maybe anthoer nice game from tuesday’s hero Belinda snell.

td: i think she just could be the silver stars Roger Mason.Jr or Geroge Hill. she just seems to be the right piece to a hope of a champonship this year.

am: first though tai, we have to get above .500. tonight the stars can get to.5oo. Now sacremento is in last in the westren confrence. will the silver stars win tonight? yes they will, but anything can happen. tai, their a young althetic ball club but in last in the west fells pretty bad.

td: there are young and athletic and you are right about the stars. i really don’t see them losing to a team that is last in the western confrence.

am: this a monarch team that has beaten phoenix, so don’t take anything for granted.

silver stars rewind

welcome back to the blog center. the at&t center is where the silver stars hold the phoenix mecury scorless for the final 2:43 for a 91-87 win. Our impact player of the game is Belinda Snell: career high 21 points, 7-11 from the floor and 3-7 from 3 point land. she will get dinner at mortans the stake house. now it’s time for some team numbers. the mercury shot 42% from the floor, 27-64. they were 9-16 from 3, commtided a season high 19 turnovers and had 22 fastbreck points. the silver stars shot 46% from the floor, 34-73, they were 7-20 from 3, they win the rebounds 33-31 and outrebound phoneix 9-8 on ofensive rebounds. they had 11 fast break points. For every fastbreak point the Silver Stars score this year, Break Check donates 20$ to the boys and girls club of san antonio. More famileys trust their breaks to Break Check then anybody else. you can log on to break check.com to exprince a whole new way to service your atuomobile. brack check. texas family ownded and operated since 1968. Now for some individual numbers. first for the vistors from phoenix, they were led in scoring by Cappie Pondexter: 26 points, 3-3 from 3 point land. Diana Taurasi: 22 points, 8 rebounds. Le’coe Willingham with 11 points, 2 rebounds. 9 for Kelly Mazante. 8 for new addtion temaka johnson. 7 for tangla smith. and 2 each for d. bonner and nicole odle.  silver stars were led by belinda snell’s career high 21 points, 7-11 from the floor. 19 for becky hammon, 14 in the 4th quarter. 16 points for Ruth Riley, also had 5 rebounds. 13 points for sophia young but was just 5-17. 6 for vickke johnson, 4 for Helen Darling, 2 for katie matrra and 1 point for erin perpeaglou. Whataburger what’s next: sacrmento friday, washington tuesday and chicago friday. now it’s time for the ask the coach segment brought to you by swbc. tonight it’s with Sandy brandello. sandy first of all your thoughts on tonight’s game.

sb: this was a game we should’ve and could’ve lost but we will take it.

yeah, with 2:45 left, the scoreboard on the At&t center jumbotron says stars 83, mecury 87 and it looks as if you guys are going to go to 1-4, but what a great defeinsve preformance during that strech.

sb: and i think it started ather Becky hit that 3, she stole the inbound and belinda got fouled. i thought that got us going. but i think the biggest play tonight was when becky got that offensive rebound with 4 seconds left. that really sealed it.

belinda snell with a career game tonight.

sb: she was awsome. 21 points, 7-11 from the feild and 3-7 from 3, just the game we needed.

you got sacremento coming in here friday. what do you have to do to win that?

sb:  we played them in the playoffs last year and we beat em. so i think they will be coming in looking for some payback.

becky coming back tonight.

sb: boy did we need her tonight. that was a problem on the road trip. we are glad she’s back.

and should this win get you guys going?

sb: yes.

Alright that is Sandy Brandello. the ask the coach segment brought to you by swbc.

that’s going to do it. the exeutive producer of stars basketball is lawerence payne. producer dainel ascraft. drectioer is mike kickerilo. traffic cordinater david snowman letterman and stoudio cordinater is andy garsia. next game stars vs monarchs here at the at&t center. tipoff at 7:00. silver stars pregame show at 6:30. thank you for tuning in. our final score once again. The Silver Stars pregame show

It’s a beautiful Sunday in Connecticut as the Silver Stars try to bounce back from an ugly loss in new york on Friday with a win in Connecticut, home of the defending NCAA Women’s basketball champions, the U Conn huskies and to the Connecticut Sun.

Hi everyone. I’m Chase risman. Happy fathers day!. what happened on Friday you ask? what should have been a 20 point win over a team that’s 0-3 turned into a 16 point embarrassment. Silver Stars in new york but without Becky hammon like today, they trailed from wire to wire. down 31-10 after 1. they fell to the liberty 77-61. so today, they try to bounce back. when do the silver stars get Ann wauters back? find out. plus Becky four points away from passing Diana Taurasi for 16Th place on the all time scoring list. and VJ now 5 Field goals away from passing Chamique Holds claw for 8Th on the all time Field goals list. coming up.  If I could describe bad news for the lynx , it’s this: Seimone Augustus is out for the season. Augustus suffered an acl injury.  what a difference a year makes. last year, Candice Wiggins missed the rest of the season now this year it’s Seimone. silver stars see the lynx next Friday on my35. it’s time for sharp talk. now the reason that maybe the stars are losing these blowouts is because Ann wauters isn’t back yet.  but she will be back in the second half of the season. after today the silver stars open up a 4 game home stand: Tuesday vs phoenix on espn2, Friday vs Sacramento, Tuesday vs Washington and Friday vs Minnesota.  now if they win all 4 and lose today, they would be 5-3. reverse, 5-2. now last thing, if we can’t win the finals rematch, i’m going to be so mad . we will be right back.

silver stars starting lineup is: Ruth Riley center, Sophia young forward, Erin beusher/perperglou at forward, Belinda Snell at guard and Vickie Johnson at guard. now i just learned that Sophia Young’s dad passed away on may 22 2009. he was sitting in the couch when he got up and went to work when his tea cup fell. he fell back in the chair and died of a heart attack. at this time a moment of silence please.  My prayers go out to Sophia And Mr.Young and the Young family. Since i was a fan in 2007, i have experienced this with the team before. last year, Vickie Johnson missed a game at Washington to be with her sick mother. so this isn’t the first time this has happened. now back to Sophia, last year she had 17 20+ point games. the stars were 14-3 when she did. she led the team in scoring 17 times and the stars were 12-5 when she did. She received player of the week, all defensive first team, and all first team. she has 30 career 20 + point games. 2 in 2006, 10 in 2007, 17 last year, and 1 this year. coming up, the sun scouting report. Connecticut sun starting lineup is: Chante black at center, former UConn star Asjia Jones at froward, Tameka witmore at forward, Barbara Turner at guard and Lindsey whalen at guard. Whalen last year led the league in assists. Now don’t make too much fun of Asjia Jones scoring a grand total of 39 points her last 3 games. she averaged 20 last year against the stars. she had 22 at Connecticut in an 85-73 loss and had 18 in their 78-74 loss in San Antonio. now for more on the sun, here’s our scouting report: “It’s important to know when Lindsey’s going to make a tough pass or when Asjia’s going shoot that 18 footer. Also when they miss a shot we have to be ready  to get the rebound because they get a ton of offensive rebounds. I think we know that this a match up of the last two coach of the year winners. so we need to rebound and if we do, will find a way to get some baskets”.  thanks for watching. we will see you at halftime.

hi everyone welcome back to the blog center, i welcome you to game day. The western conference championship will be on display at academy on June 27 from noon to 2pm. Enjoy the game we’ll see you at halftime!
